Apple is turning the App Store spotlight onto independent studios this week. Through an event dubbed Indie Games Week, the company is showcasing seven standalone releases for iPhone and iPad, ranging from kung fu brawlers to slow-burn sci-fi survival.
Several titles are already live on the storefront. Players can grab Little Kitty, Big City, strategy entry 9 Kings, and medieval narrative sequel Yes, Your Grace 2: Snowfall right away. Sloclap's martial arts revenge hit Sifu is also among the featured roster, adapted for mobile touchscreens with a reworked camera system. Engadget reported that Sifu handled fluidly on an iPhone 16 during early checks, keeping pace with the beat-em-up's demanding parry windows. Roguelite mining hybrid Dome Keeper and card battler Vampire Crawlers round out the immediate batch, with the latter adapting Vampire Survivors into a deckbuilding formula.
Big Ports on Modest Hardware
The most prominent name on the slate remains Hello Games' procedural space sim No Man's Sky, scheduled to land on October 28. While it has been available on Mac since 2023, the mobile build packages a decade of content expansions into a download smaller than 5GB.
Hardware requirements for the space title reach surprisingly far back. Founder Sean Murray noted the studio managed to get the game running on an iPhone 11 alongside the third-generation iPad Air. To fit those constraints, Hello Games rebuilt the touch inputs and added support for controllers, external keyboard setups, and television casting.
Compromises exist at launch. The mobile version ships without online multiplayer or player settlements, mirroring the initial limitations of the Nintendo Switch release before post-launch patches added them. Murray indicated that future updates will track player interest and feedback in the same fashion.
A Broader Push for Mobile Gaming
Curators have also assembled companion guides highlighting independent games playable on Mac. Carson Oliver, Apple's head of App Store Worldwide, stated that the push aims to give bold creative risks a broader audience. Rather than focusing solely on large commercial franchises, the showcase leans into varied genres that usually find homes on PC and home consoles.
Pre-orders for No Man's Sky opened on Monday as a free download to try before committing. The remaining titles are rolling through App Store editorial features throughout the week.
