Apple has released tvOS 27.2, the latest software update for Apple TV 4K, bringing a new Screen Saver Shuffle mode, better tracking for a misplaced Siri Remote and accessibility upgrades to FaceTime and the Apple TV app. It's available now for compatible Apple TV devices through Settings or the Home app.
The headline addition is Screen Saver Shuffle, which automatically rotates between Aerials, Snoopy, Portraits, Memories and Slideshow screen savers instead of locking you into one. Apple is also letting people pick individual photos from their iPhone to use as a screen saver, rather than handing the whole photo library over to the Apple TV.
Finding a lost remote, and new faces on the lock screen
If you've ever lost a Siri Remote in the couch, tvOS 27.2 adds a fix. Second-generation Siri Remotes and later can now be located using an iPhone, which gives an approximate indication of where the remote is. It's not full Find My precision tracking, but it beats digging through cushions blind.
FaceTime on Apple TV picks up support for joining calls through shared FaceTime links, and continues to rely on Continuity Camera, which turns a nearby iPhone or iPad into the camera and microphone for the big screen. Apple has also added support for sign language interpreters and captioning services within FaceTime, and extended British Sign Language and American Sign Language options to select content in the Apple TV app, though availability depends on the programme and region.
There are new profile characters too, including Snoopy, Frog and Toad, and Stillwater, with profile integration extended across Apple TV, iPhone and iPad to keep personalised viewing settings consistent between devices. Apple Music gets a refreshed app icon and small interface tweaks to match Apple's current design language.
A conversational Siri, and surround sound on the way
Apple says it's preparing a next-generation Siri experience for Apple TV, built for more natural, conversational interactions and better contextual understanding, so people can ask follow-up questions without repeating themselves. For Apple Home users, that could make controlling accessories, scenes and automations through Apple TV less fiddly than typing out full commands. Apple hasn't confirmed a rollout date or which Apple TV 4K models get the full functionality.
Separately, Apple is introducing four-speaker HomePod surround sound alongside the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, arriving November 13. The setup pairs two HomePods at the front with two at the rear, and while the two speakers within each pair need to match, the front and rear pairs can be different models. Automatic room calibration adjusts timing and volume based on where the speakers sit. The original HomePod and first-generation HomePod mini aren't supported, and the surround feature only works with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, not earlier models.
TvOS 27.2 is live now. To install it, go to Settings, then System, then Software Updates, or open the Home app and check Home Settings for a software update.
