Galaxy S27 Ultra vs S26 Ultra: dummy unit confirms camera bar, magnets, and broken case compatibility

A dummy unit built from leaked CAD files shows the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s new camera bar, built-in magnets for MagSafe-style accessories, and full incompatibility with S26 Ultra cases — with Unpacked expected late February 2027.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra dummy unit confirms camera bar redesign, magnetic charging, and S26 Ultra case incompatibility — official launch expected late February 2027 in global markets, with US and Indian pricing still unannounced. The Galaxy S27 Ultra vs S26 Ultra comparison is no longer theoretical: Android Headlines built a physical dummy unit from CAD files leaked in August, revealing the first tangible evidence of Samsung’s next flagship design ahead of Unpacked.

It’s not a working phone, no display, battery, or internals, but it’s dimensionally accurate: 163.76 × 78.25 × 7.97mm, just a fraction larger than the S26 Ultra’s 163.6 × 78.1 × 7.9mm. The change isn’t in the frame. It’s in the top third. The new raised camera bar, two-tiered, with lenses mounted on a bump atop the bar, makes room for built-in Qi2 magnets.

That’s the biggest functional shift: Samsung is finally adding MagSafe-style magnetic accessory support to the Galaxy S line. Previous models required third-party magnetic cases, which clashed with the S26 Ultra’s oversized camera bump and caused poor alignment, slow charging, and overheating. This redesign fixes that. But it breaks backward compatibility.

All Galaxy S26 Ultra cases will be incompatible with the S27 Ultra, unless they’re cut out entirely at the top. The camera island’s shape, height, and position have changed enough to prevent fit. Camera count drops to three: 200MP main, 50MP ultrawide, and 50MP 5x telephoto. The 3x telephoto is gone.

The 5x lens sits tiny in the upper tier, visually smaller than on the S26 Ultra, though Android Headlines notes it was already small there. The S Pen remains, slotted into the bottom-left edge as before. So does the USB-C port, SIM tray, speaker, and button layout, power below volume on the right, unlike Pixel’s arrangement.

Table wobble? Present in the dummy, especially when tapping the lower-right corner, but unconfirmed for the final device. Weight and internal mass distribution aren’t replicated in the shell. Visually, the S27 Ultra now echoes the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera bar, though Android Headlines points out the Galaxy’s bar is larger (compared to the non-Max iPhone model).

It also joins a wider Android trend, one Google started earlier. The Pixel 11 Pro’s flush-mounted lenses inside its thicker camera bar eliminate wobble entirely, per the report. No price, no specs beyond dimensions and camera count, no confirmed launch date, only timing hints. Samsung held last year’s Unpacked on February 25.

The two years before that, it was late January. Android Headlines pegs the next event for the week of February 22, 2027, just before Mobile World Congress opens March 1 in Barcelona. That’s when Samsung will confirm what’s real, what’s rumor, and what’s still up for revision. Until then, case makers are already tooling up.

And buyers waiting for the Galaxy S27 Ultra vs S26 Ultra decision now know one thing for sure: their current case won’t fit.
