Samsung has rolled out an upgraded sleep apnea detection feature to the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Ring — effective immediately, via the Samsung Health Monitor app. The update adds a new FDA- and South Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety-cleared algorithm that analyzes a user’s vitals during sleep in greater depth.
Unlike the earlier version, which delivered a broad risk assessment, this one offers more comprehensive insights into the level and pattern of breathing disruptions detected. It does not diagnose or treat sleep apnea, but Samsung says it can be useful when speaking with healthcare professionals, especially for people who wake up gasping for air, experience frequent nighttime awakenings, or report chronically unrefreshing sleep.
This is the first time Samsung has extended its cleared sleep apnea functionality to the Galaxy Ring, launched in 2024 and still the only model in that line. The company notes it has steadily added features to that device over time, even as some users hoped for a successor. The upgrade is live now for Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Ring owners in markets where the feature is approved.
