Gemini app now helps users cut through Netflix’s recommendation noise — but it’s not built in, and it won’t auto-play anything. Android Police reports that one user has turned Google’s AI assistant into a personal Netflix curator, using prompts, memory, and scheduled queries to bypass the platform’s engagement-optimized carousels. The result?
Faster, more contextual picks, like “a 45-minute adult comedy animation, light and funny, not Rick and Morty or Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, with episode lengths, tone notes, and reasoning baked in. Netflix itself offers none of that granularity. It doesn’t know you only have 60 minutes before bed. It doesn’t adjust after you drop a show at Season 2.
Gemini does, if you train it. You toggle memory on via Settings > Profile > Personal Intelligence > Memory. You feed it feedback. You accept that it may hallucinate titles or mix up BoJack Horseman and Big Mouth.
And you still manually search Netflix for whatever it suggests. No API. No login handshake. No deep link.
Just copy-paste or voice prompt (via Gemini Live), then go hunt. This isn’t a Netflix feature. It’s a workaround, one that works because Gemini understands constraints, context, and preference drift better than Netflix’s algorithm currently does. The user behind the experiment says they used to spend 20–30 minutes scrolling before quitting.
Now they pick something and start watching. That shift matters, especially as streaming fatigue hardens into habit. Google hasn’t announced any integration with Netflix. Netflix hasn’t responded to Android Police’s reporting.
For now, this remains a power-user hack: free, unofficial, and entirely dependent on how much time you’re willing to spend teaching an AI what ‘light’ and ‘funny’ actually mean to you. Gemini is free to use. Netflix subscriptions remain unchanged.
