Grok’s Android app is now live globally — but only as part of an X Premium subscription, priced at $8/month in the US and Rs 699 in India. There is no standalone version, no free tier, and no iOS release yet. The app is available on Google Play for Android 12 and up.
According to Android Police’s hands-on report published 16 October, the app feels responsive, uses haptic feedback thoughtfully, and departs from the ‘overly polished, diplomatic’ tone common in ChatGPT and Gemini responses. Its replies are described as more direct, occasionally witty, and less robotic, especially during casual or sarcastic exchanges. One tester found Grok’s email drafts more personal than those from rival tools, and its take on whether to upgrade a perfectly capable phone was refreshingly blunt rather than specification-heavy.
Grok Imagine handles image generation, photo editing, and short AI video creation. All within the same app. Android Police notes its video output appears ‘more true-to-life than Gemini’s’, and that Claude still lacks comparable built-in multimodal features. Voice Mode lets users switch between personalities and conversation styles, a capability not offered by Claude’s current Android app.
