Apple's standard iPhone 18 isn't expected until spring 2027, well after the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Duo hit shelves, but a fresh batch of leaks is already sketching out what the budget model might look like. None of it is confirmed by Apple. All of it comes from reports and analyst notes that have been circulating ahead of any official word.

The headline change is a new chip. The iPhone 18 is tipped to run on Apple's A20 processor, reportedly built on TSMC's 2nm manufacturing process, a step beyond the A19 silicon in the current iPhone 17. Reports suggest the A20 could deliver roughly 30 percent better power efficiency than its predecessor, which would translate into longer battery life rather than a dramatic jump in raw speed.

RAM, cameras and a reworked button

Memory looks set to go up too, though leakers disagree on by how much. Some reports point to 12GB of RAM, while analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested a more modest 9GB. Either figure would beat the 8GB in the iPhone 17, and the extra memory would mainly help with multitasking and Apple's on-device AI processing.

The rear camera could pick up a cosmetic change borrowed from the Pro lineup: a wider camera plateau stretching across the top of the back panel. The sensors underneath it aren't expected to change much, with the iPhone 18 likely sticking to the same 48-megapixel main and 48-megapixel ultrawide pairing found on the iPhone 17.

Apple is also tipped to rework the Camera Control button rather than drop it. The current touch-based version could be swapped for a pressure-sensitive mechanism that responds to how hard you press, which would let different pressure levels trigger different functions. It's also a simpler part to build, and cheaper for Apple to manufacture at scale.

The display is expected to carry over largely unchanged: a 6.3-inch OLED panel with 120Hz ProMotion, same as the iPhone 17, with bezels trimmed slightly for a cleaner look. Earlier chatter about a smaller Dynamic Island on the standard model now looks less likely.

Siri gets a Gemini-powered rework, pricing stays murky

On software, the iPhone 18 is expected to launch on iOS 27, which should bring Apple's overhauled Siri, reportedly built in partnership with Google's Gemini technology. The assistant is said to handle conversational requests, read what's on screen and carry out tasks across apps, alongside further Apple Intelligence updates in Photos, Mail, Safari and Shortcuts.

Pricing is where things get genuinely uncertain. One set of rumours has the iPhone 18 landing around Rs 1 lakh in India, matching the iPhone 17's revised price. Another suggests Apple could hold the line at the iPhone 17's original Rs 79,900 launch price. Higher storage tiers may cost more either way, as rising chip and memory prices squeeze margins across the industry. The base storage is expected to stay at 256GB, with 512GB on top and no 1TB option, continuing the iPhone 17's lineup after Apple dropped the 128GB tier.

The iPhone 18 is rumoured to arrive alongside a second-generation iPhone Air and the cheaper iPhone 18e sometime around March 2027. Until Apple says otherwise, every spec here stays a leak.
