iPhone 18 Pro Max colors, price, camera specs

Apple’s new manual camera tools are built in — no app required. But they’re buried, uncustomizable, and don’t work with the Camera Control button.

IPhone 18 Pro Max launches globally with manual camera controls, variable aperture, and new Photographic Styles — $1,299 in the US, Rs 1,59,900 in India. Ships Friday, 8 November 2026. Available in Black Titanium, Desert Titanium, Alpine Titanium, and Deep Purple Titanium, no matte finishes or ‘rose gold’ variants confirmed.

Apple has not announced a titanium-free base model for this generation, unlike the iPhone 17 lineup. The Pro Max variant is the only one with the full suite of new imaging features: f/1.48–f/4 variable aperture on the main 48MP sensor, shutter speeds from 1/2s to 1/10,000s, white balance tuning, and dedicated Photographic Styles with film grain and glow effects baked into capture, not just post-processing.

These are not live photo extensions or computational tricks. They’re applied at capture time, like Fujifilm’s Film Simulation modes. The starburst effect at f/4 appears only with bright point sources, streetlights, shrine lanterns, sun reflections, and is absent on earlier models. It’s not a filter.

It’s optical. The Camera Control button (the physical button on the left edge) does not support any of these new manual adjustments. You still need to tap into the viewfinder or open the six-dot menu. No third-party app is required to access them, they’re native in iOS 18.3.

Battery life held through full travel days in Japan, per CNET’s hands-on: one overnight charge lasted from breakfast through evening hikes and night photography sessions. No official battery capacity or screen-on time figures were released. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is the first Apple phone to let users assign Photographic Styles per camera, but only after capture.

During shooting, the same style applies to front and back cameras. Users can’t set separate styles for selfies versus street shots before snapping. Grain intensity is fixed, no slider, no adjustment. It works best in daylight.

CNET found it overly aggressive in low light. Shutter speed and aperture toggles remain uncustomizable in placement or labeling. You can’t move them to the top bar or rename them. The six-dot menu stays static.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299 for 256GB in the US. In India, it starts at Rs 1,59,900 for the same configuration. Apple hasn’t confirmed pricing for 512GB or 1TB tiers. Pre-orders opened Thursday, 7 November.

Units ship Friday, 8 November, same-day delivery in select US metro areas and same-week delivery across major Indian cities including Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi NCR. No carrier exclusives or early-bird bundles reported. The iPhone 18 Pro (non-Max) shares the same camera system but lacks the telephoto zoom range and battery capacity.

It starts at $1,199 / Rs 1,49,900. Neither model supports manual controls on the ultra-wide or telephoto lenses, only the main camera. Apple’s official specs page lists the variable aperture as ‘adaptive’, but CNET’s testing confirms it’s user-selectable across four discrete stops: f/1.48, f/2.2, f/2.8, and f/4. The f/4 setting triggers the starburst algorithm automatically, no toggle needed.

That’s new. And yes, it shows up in raw HEIF captures, not just JPEGs.
