The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is the closest Android counterpart to the iPhone 18 Pro Max — and it’s available now in the US and India, priced from $1,299 and Rs 1,39,999 respectively. That’s the verdict from Engadget’s deep comparison, which weighs hardware, software polish, carrier availability, and real-world usability, not just spec-sheet parity.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max launched with Apple’s first 2nm A20 Pro chip, a 5,400 mAh battery, faster charging, and what Engadget calls “the best cameras on any iPhone.” But it doesn’t exist in a vacuum. And in the global flagship race, only one Android device meets Apple’s bar across all major dimensions: Samsung’s February 2026 release.
Not the Pixel 11 Pro XL. Not the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. The S26 Ultra. It ships with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 12GB RAM (16GB on the 1TB model), a 5,000 mAh battery, and Samsung’s One UI 9, the most iOS-like Android experience widely available in North America and India.
Its screen is made by the same company that supplies Apple’s displays. It includes Privacy Display. It’s sold through every major US carrier and listed on Flipkart, Amazon India, and Samsung India’s site. The Pixel 11 Pro XL falls short on raw performance: Engadget cites PhoneBuff testing showing it lags behind Samsung flagships from 2022–2023 in everyday tasks.
Google’s Tensor G6 isn’t built for head-to-head benchmarking, it’s built to showcase AI features and guide Android development. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max? Stronger on paper, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, dual-screen design, but absent from US and Canadian carriers, and running HyperOS on Android 17, which Engadget describes as lacking the refinement of One UI 9.
So while Xiaomi may challenge Apple in China or parts of Europe, it doesn’t compete in the markets where the iPhone 18 Pro Max sells most. That leaves the S26 Ultra as the only Android phone that matches Apple’s combination of hardware execution, software consistency, and distribution scale. And the fight isn’t static.
Leaked renders and reports point to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, expected early 2027, packing the Gen 6 chip, a redesigned camera system, and physical resemblance to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. If those leaks hold, Samsung isn’t just keeping pace. It’s preparing its next salvo.
