Apple has opened preorders for the iPhone Duo — the company’s first foldable, starting at $1,999 in the US and ₹1,99,999 in India. It ships October 23, but online delivery estimates already stretch into late January 2027 across all configurations on Apple’s website. In-store availability remains unconfirmed, though Apple says it will have units at Apple Stores globally on launch day. Preorders went live at 8 a.m. ET on October 16. Just one day after its unveiling at the ‘Surprise and shine’ event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. The iPhone Duo is not just another slab: it folds open from a 5.4-inch outer display to a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR screen with a nano-texture matte finish, IP68 rating, Ceramic Shield 2 on the back, and Ceramic Shield on both displays. There’s no Face ID. Instead, Touch ID lives on the power button. The A20 Pro chip matches the iPhone 18 Pro. So does its 48-megapixel Fusion camera, but without variable aperture. IOS 27 has been rebuilt for folding: the dock anchors to the side of the screen, and a custom animation plays every time you unfold it. Apple Pencil support arrives later this year. Repair costs without AppleCare Plus are steep: $229 for battery service, $999 for inner display damage, and $1,499 for ‘other damage’. Apple says preorder demand was ‘extraordinary’. A phrase Bloomberg attributed to the company in a statement, and that it’s ‘working hard’ to get units out. No timeline for catch-up production or expanded retail stock has been given. The iPhone Duo is now live for preorder in the US, India, UK, and select European markets. Prices listed per region, no conversions applied.
