Apple’s iPhone Duo is live for pre-order in India at ₹2,99,900 — and deliveries are already scheduled for January 2027. The company opened bookings two days ago, on October 16, ahead of the official October 23 retail launch. Within an hour, new orders showed estimated shipping windows stretching into next year, a signal not just of demand, but of constrained supply from day one. This is Apple’s first foldable, its most expensive iPhone yet, and the only device in its lineup with a dual-screen, landscape-oriented folding design. It is also arriving into a global foldable market that shrank 21.6% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, per Omdia data cited by Digit. That makes the early delivery slip less about hype than about physics: Apple has limited manufacturing partners, tight yield control, and no existing foldable supply chain to lean on. Navkendar Singh of IDC India expects Apple to sell every unit it makes in India. Estimating at least 1.5 lakh units sold in 2026 alone. Faisal Kawoosa of Techarc agrees the response will be strong, calling it the culmination of years of pent-up demand from iPhone users waiting for a foldable in the ecosystem. But he also flags Apple’s narrow partner base as a bottleneck: “I don’t see an option with Apple to jack up demand as it doesn’t yet have many partners for Duo manufacturing.” Tarun Pathak of Counterpoint Research puts it plainly: “Supply is tight, and the early adopters, a narrow pool who want to stand out even within Apple’s lineup, have gone for what’s available.” That pool is already looking elsewhere. Some buyers are turning to overseas channels or grey-market imports, a shift analysts say will accelerate as local stock remains scarce. Apple’s entry is still expected to lift the entire foldable category: Counterpoint forecasts 21% global foldable shipment growth for 2026, with the iPhone Duo capturing 25% of that volume despite launching mid-year. Samsung holds 32%, Huawei 24%. The ripple effect is already visible: rivals are being pushed to re-evaluate multitasking, AI integration, and hinge durability. Not just screen specs. For Indian buyers, the immediate reality is this: ₹2,99,900 buys you a place in line. Not a phone. Not yet. Retail availability begins October 23, but actual units won’t ship until Q1 2027 for most.
