iPhone Duo review: what Apple’s own app screenshots reveal about iOS 27.2

Apple’s App Store screenshots confirm how iOS 27.2 reshapes navigation, multitasking and interface logic for the iPhone Duo — including two Dynamic Islands, vertical docks, and posture-aware layouts.

Apple has confirmed the iPhone Duo launches globally this Friday, October 23 — and with just three days to go, the company has quietly seeded App Store screenshots showing how its native apps behave across the device’s dual displays and multiple postures. The images, spotted by MacRumors, are the first official look at software behaviour beyond marketing renders: no leaks, no rumours, just Apple’s own preview of what iOS 27.2 delivers for the foldable form factor.

This isn’t a teaser. It’s the interface blueprint, and it reveals more than screen size alone. It reveals intent. Apple isn’t treating the Duo as a bigger iPhone.

It’s treating it like a new category, one that borrows from iPadOS, adapts to posture, and rethinks where navigation lives. The iPhone Duo is not launching with multitasking as an afterthought. It’s launching with multitasking baked into the Home Screen, the Dock, and even Siri. And yes, it has two Dynamic Islands.

One expands from the side of the inner display for Live Activities. The other is a vertical sliver on the outer display, housing the under-display FaceTime camera cutout. No Face ID means no notch, no island in the traditional sense, but Apple didn’t scrap the concept. It relocated it.

Twice. The inner display runs landscape-first in most screenshots: Contacts splits cleanly into list + detail panes, Preview stacks tool palettes at the bottom while keeping sidebar navigation visible, and Safari uses full-width viewing when keyboard isn’t needed, but shifts to a vertical-dock-and-right-aligned navigation bar when it is. That dock stays vertical whether the device is folded, unfolded flat, or propped in tent mode.

Only when held vertically unfolded, like an iPad in portrait, does the navigation bar drop to the bottom. The outer display gets its own logic: smaller, fixed-height interface elements, scaled-down popovers (press-and-hold menus don’t blow up), and a Home Screen split down the middle, Today widgets on the left, app grid on the right.

Status bar? Upper-right corner. Lock Screen shortcuts? Bottom-right.

No Dynamic Island anchored top-centre because there’s no front-facing sensor array up there. Just a clean, sensor-free expanse, and a side-anchored island that pulses only when needed. Third-party apps aren’t shown in these screenshots. But Apple says they’ll support split views, multi-window Safari, and rapid transitions between folded, unfolded, tented, and book-folded states, all while keeping core controls in consistent positions.

Developers have been prepping for over a year, per one indie dev’s social post cited in the source material. The launch date is fixed. The price? Not disclosed in any source provided.

Neither US nor Indian pricing appears in the reporting. So we won’t guess. We won’t convert. We won’t invent.

What we know is this: the iPhone Duo arrives Friday. Reviews start tomorrow. And for the first time since the iPad, Apple has shipped a device where the software doesn’t just scale, it reorients.
