IQOO has pulled the wraps off the Neo12, the newest entry in its gaming-first Neo line, and it's already on sale in China. The headline specs are the kind that matter to anyone who games on a phone: a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 9,000mAh battery and a 185Hz display, which iQOO is calling an industry first for this resolution class.
That screen is a 6.83-inch panel running at 2K resolution, built with what iQOO describes as new "Sky Mirror" luminescent material and pTSF technology, and rated for peak brightness up to 2,200 nits. Driving it is a custom 2K 185Hz display chip that iQOO says is 28 percent faster and draws 30 percent less power than the one in its predecessor. Touch input runs through an ultra-sensitive controller with Q-flex technology, carried over from the flagship iQOO 16.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is paired with iQOO's in-house "Monster" performance engine, the same software layer tuning the iQOO 16. Keeping that combination cool under load is an upgraded "Ice Dome" cooling system, backed by an active cooling fan, a feature still rare outside dedicated gaming phones.
IQOO is also putting its own silicon to work on graphics. A Q3 gaming chip acts as a secondary GPU alongside the main processor, running what the company calls a QNSS super-rendering engine. Together they're meant to handle full-scene ray tracing, 2K resolution upscaling and frame-rate interpolation at once, plus local shadow enhancement and two software color filters, all aimed at squeezing more frames out of demanding games without melting the chassis.
On the back is a 50-megapixel Sony sensor with optical stabilization, support for super-macro shots and multiple portrait focal lengths, alongside an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The front houses a 16-megapixel selfie camera.
IQOO has clearly built the body around long gaming sessions rather than pocketability. The chassis uses larger, rounded corner profiles and a reworked camera bump specifically to improve how it sits in the hand held horizontally, the orientation most mobile games use. The frame is a low-temperature matte metal, and the rear glass has an anti-glare, fingerprint-resistant frosted finish. Design work came out of a collaboration with the China Academy of Art, and the Neo12 ships in a new "Contender" finish alongside two standard colors, "Shadow Black" and "Frost Blade Blue."
IQOO's announcement covers China only, with the phone on sale there alongside unspecified launch offers. There's no pricing figure in the company's rollout, and no indication yet of whether the Neo12 will make it to India or other markets, where the Neo series has previously launched months after its Chinese debut. Anyone shopping the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 lineup in India right now will have to keep watching for an iQOO announcement specific to that market.
