Kim Kardashian appeared holding a Samsung Galaxy phone in an Instagram video on Monday to tease a commercial tie-up between delivery company DoorDash and her shapewear label, Skims.
The handset visible in the short video looks like one of Samsung's flagship Galaxy S devices. Samsung does not seem to have any official role in the promotion, which focuses entirely on the upcoming partnership between the clothing line and the on-demand delivery app.
Celebrity phone sightings usually draw close scrutiny because high-profile influencers often stay loyal to Apple's ecosystem in public appearances. Kardashian has frequently been photographed with iPhones over the years, making an appearance with Android hardware an immediate curiosity for mobile watchers. The clip posted to her official Instagram profile did not explain the choice of hardware, but it gave viewers a clear look at the device during the teaser.
The video itself served as a brief preview for an arrangement between DoorDash and Skims that is scheduled for an official reveal on Tuesday. DoorDash built its business on fast local food orders and has spent recent years adding retail partners, clothing brands, and convenience stores to its delivery catalog. Skims sells apparel, underwear, and loungewear directly to consumers through digital drops and select physical spaces. Putting the two together suggests a service meant to send Skims orders to customers on immediate turnaround times.
Tech companies often pay steep endorsement fees to place their devices into celebrity hands. In this case, though, the hardware was just sitting in the frame of a marketing video produced for two unrelated consumer brands. Whether the Galaxy device belongs to Kardashian or served simply as a production prop on set remains unconfirmed.
More details about the commercial rollout for the DoorDash and Skims project are expected when the formal announcement lands on Tuesday.
