Ledvance just dumped 116 Matter-over-Wi-Fi products straight into the Works with Home Assistant program. The validation wave marks one of the largest single hardware expansions the open-source platform has seen, pushing its certified hardware catalog to 517 entries.
Everything in the batch talks directly to a local Home Assistant setup over standard home Wi-Fi. That means you do not need a vendor bridge, a proprietary account, or an extra Thread border router plugged into your wall. Home Assistant's built-in Matter Server handles communication directly on your local network.
The certified gear covers a massive slice of the company's Smart+ portfolio. Buyers get access to filament lamps, spotlights, ceiling and wall mounts, recessed units, floor lamps, and flexible strip lights. Most of these models provide either full-color output or tunable white temperatures. Ledvance also verified several outdoor-rated fixtures like garden spots and floodlights, alongside its Smart+ Plug and in-wall switches for dumb appliances.
Formed in 2016 after separating from Osram, Ledvance still licenses the Osram badge across several consumer lighting lines. While the company has sold connected fixtures for years, joining the Works with Home Assistant program demands more than a basic Matter logo on a retail package.
Matter itself promises universal compatibility on paper, but practical rollouts across different controllers have often felt clunky. Home Assistant tests each device in-house to verify local-only operation. Hardware makers must pledge that features will work as expected without dialing out to remote vendor servers. If an internet line drops or a manufacturer pulls the plug on its backend servers, local automations keep firing.
That local safeguard has become crucial for smart homes. Hardware brands frequently abandon cloud integrations or shutter connected divisions with minimal notice. Having explicit local verification guarantees a switch or light bulb remains operational for years after purchase.
Ledvance joins brands like Aqara, Eve, and Motionblinds on the verified roster. The entire batch of 116 products is live now in the official Home Assistant device directory, with both teams signaling plans to test more hardware down the road.
