Linkind has rolled out a tube-style alternative to standard screw-in smart bulbs, designed specifically for exposed desk fixtures and glass-cased lamps. The Linkind Smart Light Stick twists into an ordinary E26 socket, but replaces the typical globe with a tall frosted plastic cylinder that turns the light source into the centerpiece of the fixture.
The design targets decorative open lamps where standard smart bulbs look awkward and light strips require too much cable routing. While standard bulbs concentrate output into a rounded glass dome, the Light Stick spreads its illumination across the body of the cylinder. According to testing by Matter Alpha, the plastic enclosure feels basic and plain while switched off, yet transforms into a uniform luminous bar once powered, concealing individual internal LEDs.
Under the hood, the fixture outputs up to 850 lumens and supports standard white color temperature adjustment alongside full RGB color mixing. Connectivity runs over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi with Bluetooth handling initial pairing. Support for Matter 1.5 means the stick connects directly into Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings without requiring a proprietary bridge or a Thread border router.
That platform integration brings perks like Apple Home Adaptive Lighting, which automatically adjusts white color temperatures throughout the day to match natural daylight cycles. Stability proved solid in Matter Alpha's evaluation, showing prompt automation responses when paired with Matter sensors and reliable recovery following power cuts.
There are trade-offs to keep in mind before buying. The cylindrical form factor means clearance can be tricky in smaller fixtures. In Matter Alpha's hands-on tests, the stick proved too long to fit inside compact glass globes like the IKEA Fado. The outlet also observed that the extreme top and bottom ends of the cylinder remain slightly dim due to internal hardware placement, though the boundary between lit and unlit areas remains sharp.
Software capability is split between ecosystem standards and the proprietary companion app. Linkind packs multi-segment LEDs inside the hardware, which unlock animated scenes and multicolor gradients inside the maker's AiDot application. However, because standard Matter specifications do not yet handle segmented animation commands uniformly, smart home platforms only see the unit as a single-zone color bulb. Matter Alpha also pointed out that dynamic animations inside the AiDot software can appear slightly stepped rather than fluid.
For shoppers outfitting bare-bulb table fixtures, the stick provides an uncommon middle ground between bare filament bulbs and complex ambient light bars. Setup works through standard Matter QR code scanning across major smart home apps.
