MacOS 27 Golden Gate is live — but only on Apple Silicon Macs, and only partially complete. The full release dropped September 14, 2026. It’s not a minor update. It’s Apple’s first macOS built entirely around Apple Intelligence, and the first to drop Intel support outright.
No M1, M2 or M3 Mac? You’re locked out. No workarounds. No exceptions.
Intel Macs stay on macOS 26 with security patches for now, but that clock is ticking. MacOS 27.2 followed on October 26, adding multilingual Siri AI support (French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish) and patching early bugs. Then came macOS 27.3, a developer beta released November 3, just one day before this report, bringing vertical tabs, Adaptive Dark Mode and new Siri browser controls to Safari.
Those features aren’t in the public build yet. They’re still being tested. Siri AI is the centerpiece. Not the voice-first assistant of old.
A contextual, generative-AI layer that reads your screen, understands follow-up questions, drafts replies, summarizes text, creates calendar events and even tries to change weak passwords across websites, automatically. But it’s gated. Expressive voices and advanced dictation need an M3 or later chip with at least 12GB of unified memory. Lower-spec Apple Silicon Macs get a cut-down version.
And in the EU, Siri AI works on Mac and Vision Pro, but not iPhone or iPad, due to Digital Markets Act compliance delays. In mainland China, it’s absent entirely while Apple negotiates regulatory approval. There’s also a hidden Siri context popover, discovered in beta testing, that surfaces Writing Tools, summaries, message drafts and flight tracking when you select text.
It’s disabled by default. Requires FeatureFlags to turn on. Apple hasn’t confirmed whether it’ll ship to users. Other changes are rolling out more quietly: Photos gets AI-powered editing and search.
Mail and Messages add deeper Apple Intelligence integration. The Passwords app attempts automatic password resets on supported sites, though compatibility with two-factor flows and complex login pages remains unproven. And there are problems. Mission Control and Spaces glitches have been reported in Apple’s own Support Community.
French outlet MacGeneration reproduced them. Apple hasn’t issued a fix yet. MacOS 27.3 public beta is expected soon, likely within weeks, ahead of a full release later this year. Until then, the ‘Golden Gate’ name isn’t just a California reference.
It’s a threshold. Cross it, and you get Apple’s AI future, incomplete, uneven, hardware-restricted, region-locked, and still working out the kinks.
