Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 holds a 94 percent positive rating on Steam across 4,068 player reviews. That figure gives the shooter a "Very Positive" designation and marks the franchise's highest rating on Valve's PC storefront since 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops.
The early reception comes from pre-order customers playing through the campaign before the complete release. Among verified buyers on the store, 3,438 people have weighed in. SteamDB metrics tracked by Insider Gaming previously showed the title sitting at an 81.5 percent approval rating across roughly 900 reviews last week, before scores climbed higher as more players finished the story mode.
That response stands in sharp contrast to recent franchise history. Mainline releases have routinely landed south of the halfway mark on Steam over the last three autumns. Last year's Black Ops 7 settled at a 38.7 percent score on SteamDB. Black Ops 6 managed just 45.7 percent in 2024, and 2023's Modern Warfare III crawled to 48.1 percent. Outside of this week's campaign access, the only modern franchise entry holding firm praise on Valve's storefront is Black Ops III, which retains an 84.3 percent positive mark.
