The Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 has landed with a 9.6 user score on Metacritic — the highest in the site’s history, despite an apparent review-bombing campaign that triggered the removal of at least 30–40 suspiciously low scores. The game launched November 5, 2026, and user reviews opened 36 hours later, on November 6 at 1 a.m. ET.
By late evening on November 7, it had amassed over 3,900 user ratings, enough to dethrone Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which holds second place with a 9.4 average across 27,500 submissions. Silent Hill 2, Splatoon Raiders, and Resident Evil Requiem all sit at 9.3. The original N64 version still edges out the remake in critic scores: 99 vs. 96 on Metacritic.
Nintendo’s press embargo lifted November 4, allowing professional reviews to go live ahead of launch, but user reviews were locked until after release, per platform policy. Players praise the visual fidelity, calling it the best-looking current-gen title on the Switch 2 handheld, though some note shimmering artifacts in open areas, especially where dynamic lighting interacts with distant terrain.
