OnePlus 16R and OnePlus 16 both expected in India December or early 2027

A tipster claims OnePlus will launch two flagships in India — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5–powered 16R and possibly the full OnePlus 16 — despite earlier rumors saying the latter wouldn’t land there.

OnePlus is set to expand its Indian flagship lineup with not one but two new smartphones — the OnePlus 16R and, potentially, the OnePlus 16, launching either in December 2026 or early 2027.

The announcement comes just days before OnePlus unveils the OnePlus 16 in China on October 12. The Ace 7 may debut alongside it or shortly after. But while the Chinese launch is confirmed, India’s rollout remains unannounced. And contested.

According to a tipster cited by GSMArena, the OnePlus 16R will be the first of the pair to hit India. If past naming patterns hold, it will likely be a rebranded or lightly adapted version of the Ace 7. Its specs, as tipped, are aggressive: a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a 6.78-inch flat OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 185Hz refresh rate, a 200MP main camera, a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom, a 9,000 mAh battery, 100W wired charging, a metal frame, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.

That battery capacity, 9,000 mAh. Would mark a significant jump over current flagships, most of which hover between 5,000 and 6,000 mAh. The 185Hz refresh rate also exceeds even the highest-tier panels on today’s market, which typically cap at 144Hz.

The second device is less certain. The same tipster says the other model “might” be the OnePlus 16, a notable reversal from a rumor last month that claimed the OnePlus 16 would skip India entirely. That contradiction remains unresolved. OnePlus has issued no official statement confirming either device’s Indian availability.

No pricing or exact launch date has been shared. Nor has OnePlus confirmed whether the OnePlus 16R will carry the same specs in India as the Ace 7 does elsewhere. Or whether regional variants will differ in camera tuning, software features, or accessory bundling.

For Indian buyers, this signals a potential shift. OnePlus has leaned heavily on the Ace series for mid-to-high-tier performance lately, reserving the numbered ‘1’ line for global flagships. Launching both lines domestically, especially if the 16 arrives. Could mean tighter competition against Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series and Apple’s iPhone 18 lineup, both of which are already priced aggressively in India.

The timing also matters. A December launch would place the devices squarely in the holiday shopping window, a period when premium Android sales spike across urban and Tier-2 markets. An early-2027 release would instead target post-festival demand and budget reallocation after Diwali and New Year.

What’s clear is that OnePlus is signaling ambition. Not just in spec sheet escalation, but in market commitment. Whether the 16R ships first, whether the 16 follows, and whether either lands before or after competing flagships from Xiaomi, Oppo, and Samsung remain open questions.

Official confirmation is expected no earlier than late October, after the China launch. And no later than mid-November, when OnePlus traditionally begins Indian marketing pushes ahead of major sales events.
