PlayStation 5 Emulator Runs Gran Turismo 7 Without Graphical Glitches

KyTyPS5, a hobbyist project with no official blessing from Sony, loads Polyphony Digital's racing game cleanly on PC for the first time, even though it still crawls under 20 frames per second.

A PlayStation 5 emulator called KyTyPS5 can now run Gran Turismo 7 on a Windows PC without any visible graphical glitches, according to a video posted by YouTube channel Unreal Gaming PC and reported by Wccftech on Wednesday. It's an unofficial project, built by hobbyists with no involvement from Sony, and Gran Turismo 7 is the latest in a growing list of PS5 exclusives it's been able to load.

The demo ran on a PC fitted with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 and 64GB of RAM, using a build of the emulator labeled usa-ratt d5bb89e. Wccftech called the clean visuals unusual for a first attempt, since newly emulated games typically arrive riddled with rendering errors that take weeks or months to iron out.

There's a catch. The framerate reportedly doesn't clear 20fps, well short of anything playable, let alone the 60fps that Gran Turismo 7 targets on actual PS5 hardware. So this is a proof of concept, not a finished port, and Sony has not commented on the emulator or its legality.

Still, the trajectory matters more than this single clip. KyTyPS5 has already been used to boot Bluepoint Games' Demon's Souls remake and Astro Bot, two more PS5-only titles that have never had an official Windows release. Wccftech noted that Demon's Souls went from barely booting to running above 60fps on the emulator in a relatively short stretch, which is the pattern people are now watching for with Gran Turismo 7.

The timing lines up with another unofficial release: an unlicensed PC port of Gran Turismo Sport reportedly surfaced online just days before this milestone, adding to a loose but fast-moving scene of fan projects chipping away at Sony's PC exclusivity.

What happens next

The bigger prize on the horizon is Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Games' sequel is expected to arrive first on consoles, and Wccftech suggested KyTyPS5's pace of progress raises the odds that an emulated version could be playable on PC before Rockstar ships an official port, possibly as early as the first quarter of 2027. That's a projection from the outlet's coverage, not a confirmed date from Rockstar or Sony, and nothing about GTA 6's PC timeline has been officially announced.

For now, Gran Turismo 7 on KyTyPS5 is a tech demo, not a way to actually play the game on a PC. Whether it clears the performance bar that Demon's Souls did, and how quickly, will say a lot about how much pressure these unofficial emulators can put on Sony's own console-exclusivity strategy. Sony has not said whether it plans any legal response to the project, and emulator developers in this space have historically worked anonymously to avoid exactly that kind of attention.
