Sony's WH-1000XM5 noise canceling cans plunged to $198 on Amazon on Monday, cutting $201.99 off the usual $399.99 list price.
The 50 percent cut matched the lowest price recorded for the over-ear model, identical to its previous Prime Day rate, according to reporting published by SoundGuys on October 12, 2026. Retail discounts on top-tier personal audio tend to fluctuate rapidly, but the markdown arrived as a rare half-price concession on one of Sony's most recognisable listening products.
While newer releases now sit above it in the company's headphone lineup, the WH-1000XM5 continues to hold a prominent spot in the premium audio segment. Hardware specs remain fully competitive for travel and office work. Sony quotes battery endurance at up to roughly 30 hours of continuous playback with active noise cancellation switched on, accompanied by quick charge capability whenever the cells run dry.
Software maintenance has persisted alongside the older hardware cycle. Firmware version 2.5.1 appeared in 2026, keeping the device up to date on current operating systems. The set includes multipoint Bluetooth pairing, allowing listeners to retain simultaneous wireless handoffs across two host machines such as a laptop and a phone without manually unpairing.
Codec support covers high-resolution listening through Sony's proprietary LDAC protocol on compatible sources. The hardware also carries spatial audio processing alongside head-tracking functionality when linked with supported platforms, paired with internal microphones configured for voice clarity during calls.
Amazon did not attach a formal expiration timer to the $198 listing when SoundGuys documented the rate. Stock and pricing at major online storefronts adjust without warning once promotional allocations run dry.
