Physical preorders for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake dropped by ten dollars at two major American retailers ahead of its autumn debut. The packaged Switch 2 edition was listed at $59.88 at Amazon and Walmart against its regular $69.99 price when IGN reported the cut on Wednesday, October 14.
That pricing temporarily pulls the boxed cartridge below Nintendo's $59.99 digital tag on the eShop. Nintendo established a split pricing structure for this console cycle, placing standard digital games at $59.99 while setting boxed retail editions at $69.99. Amazon and Walmart have responded by knocking physical preorder prices down to match or undercut the digital tier before launch. Similar discounts previously appeared on upcoming Switch 2 games such as Star Fox, Switch Sports Resort, and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
Once release day arrives, retail prices typically jump right back up to the standard $69.99 MSRP.
The boxed version offers more than a plastic case. Nintendo confirmed that initial physical print runs will feature "textured foil cover art", though the packaging will only remain available while supplies last. Unlike several high-profile modern releases that ship with partial data or digital vouchers in the box, the complete game is stored directly on the Switch 2 cartridge.
Buyers who place an order through Amazon are covered by the retailer's preorder price guarantee. Shoppers do not pay until the order ships, and they receive the lowest price reached between purchase and dispatch even if the listing climbs back up to retail price before November.
The remake represents the anchor of Nintendo's Zelda 40th Anniversary celebration, which also revealed a Link & Epona Lego set alongside a dedicated limited-edition console. While previous updates to the 1998 classic focused on minor texture cleanups, this Switch 2 edition implements broader adjustments. Preview details highlight reworked puzzles and altered miniboss encounters, along with rewritten dialogue sequences.
Stock for the related anniversary hardware remains volatile. The Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 edition has fluctuated in and out of stock across Amazon through mid-October ahead of an October 29 cutoff.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
