Apple Caps iPhone Duo Pre-Orders at Two Units as Delivery Dates Slip

The clampdown follows eBay scalpers listing the $1,999 foldable for over $5,000 while official Apple shipments push out to late January 2027.

Apple is refusing to let anyone buy more than two iPhone Duo units online, stepping in after shipping windows slipped months down the calendar and reseller markups spiked.

Try adding a third unit of the foldable phone to your cart on Apple's online storefront and an immediate warning blocks checkout. The prompt forces buyers to lower their order total back to two handsets before proceeding. The policy is already active across regional stores in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Spain, covering every storage tier and finish on offer.

Driving the decision is an immediate surge in opportunistic reselling. Pre-orders opened only days ago, but secondary market listings quickly went haywire. Scalpers began putting up confirmed allocations on eBay with asking prices crossing $5,000. That is more than double the official iPhone Duo price, which starts at $1,999.

Delivery Waits and Carrier Stock

For regular buyers ordering directly from Apple right now, official delivery estimates have already rolled back into late January 2027. That two-month-plus wait creates fertile ground for resellers targeting shoppers who want the hardware in hand on launch day.

Bulk limits will not stop every scalper. Organised operations regularly cycle through multiple credit cards and varying delivery addresses to sidestep retail filters. Still, hard limits at the digital register blunt automated cart-stuffing and help throttle inventory drain.

This is familiar territory for Cupertino. Apple has deployed checkout caps before during constrained rollouts, enforcing similar rules during high-demand iPhone releases in the US and China to keep stock from vanishing into grey-market rings.

Shoppers unwilling to wait until late January or pay an extortionate markup still have routes around Apple's direct queue. Wireless network carriers and retail chains like Best Buy are still showing earlier delivery and pickup windows for select models. Those allotments move fast, but they remain priced at list value. For anyone unwilling to take a flyer on an auction listing, the carrier queue is the only sensible option left.
