Apple's Standard iPhone 18 Is Tipped For A Spring 2027 Launch

Leaks point to a 2-nanometre A20 chip, a redesigned camera bar and a price near Rs 99,900, arriving months after the iPhone 18 Pro line that launched in September.

Apple left the standard iPhone 18 out of its September event entirely. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone Duo all launched then, and the Duo is already on sale. The regular iPhone 18, the one most people actually buy, did not show up.

That is not an oversight, if the current round of leaks and analyst notes is right. Apple is reportedly splitting its lineup, pushing the standard iPhone 18, the iPhone 18e and the iPhone Air 2 to a spring 2027 launch, likely in March or April. If that holds, the iPhone 17 will stay as Apple's default phone for close to 18 months, far longer than the usual yearly cycle.

None of this is confirmed by Apple. Everything below comes from analysts and tipsters, not the company.

What might change

The design is expected to stay close to the iPhone 17, with a 6.3-inch display and 120Hz ProMotion carried over. One change floated in leaks is a smaller Dynamic Island, nudging the standard model a step closer to the Pro phones cosmetically.

A dummy unit shared by tipster Majin Bu shows a burgundy-coloured phone with two cameras stacked vertically inside a horizontal bar running across the top of the back panel, with what looks like an etched plate for MagSafe magnets. Colour options floated for the phone include silver, pink and dark blue.

On the inside, the iPhone 18 is tipped to run Apple's A20 chip, built on a 2-nanometre process, a jump from the 3nm process used on the current A19. Apple's C2 modem and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance are also rumoured to carry over.

RAM is the one spec where leakers disagree. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has pointed to 9GB, while Jeff Pu has said 12GB. More memory would help the phone run Apple Intelligence features on-device without leaning as hard on the cloud, but which figure is right, if either, is not settled.

The camera setup is expected to hold at 48 megapixels for both the main and ultra-wide sensors, with an 18-megapixel front camera. The phone is expected to ship with iOS 27.

Price watch

India pricing has not been announced, but reports suggest Apple could set the iPhone 18 at around Rs 99,900. That would track where the iPhone 17 sits today, not where it launched. The iPhone 17 debuted at Rs 79,900 in India and has since climbed to Rs 99,900 as component costs, especially memory, have risen. If that trend holds into 2027, a higher starting price for the iPhone 18 would not be a surprise.

Nothing here is locked in. Apple has not confirmed a launch window, a chip, a camera spec or a price for the standard iPhone 18. The company's own announcement, whenever it comes, is the only one that will settle it.
