Google has pushed out what looks like its biggest Google Home update in months, and this time the fixes go well past the Gemini assistant.
The company's biweekly Gemini for Home changelog usually trims down over time. Not this one. According to Android Police, the release notes for this round are the most exhaustive Google has published for the platform, touching everything from voice recognition to the firmware on Nest Wifi routers.
Start with Gemini itself. Google says the assistant should now better understand requests to move music between rooms, and should throw fewer "Sorry, I did not understand" errors, including ones that used to fire even when nobody had spoken to the device at all. YouTube TV commands on smart displays are also said to register more reliably.
Two volume bugs get specific fixes. One had been silently setting alarm and timer volumes to zero. On affected devices, those now match the main device volume instead. The other involved cross-room commands: asking Gemini to turn down the volume in another room could instead crank the speaker you were actually talking to, if Gemini couldn't locate the target device. Google says that's fixed too.
The Google Home app gets practical additions
On Android, the Google Home app now recognizes specific Matter closure types, so garage doors, gates, windows and cabinets show the correct icon and controls instead of a generic one. Matter-compatible smart plugs and energy monitors get real-time power draw and cumulative energy use right on their device tiles. There's also a new shortcut on the thermostat controller and Home View for switching to an energy-saving temperature before you head out the door. Android foldable owners should see a steadier camera live view when folding or unfolding their phone mid-stream.
Nest hardware is where this update runs deepest. Chromecast with Google TV HD and 4K are picking up the August 2026 security patch along with connectivity and display fixes. Nest Wifi routers and points get mesh resilience improvements, a DNS fallback option and general stability work.
Google Home and Nest speakers are promised smoother streaming, with less boomy bass and clearer playback at low volume. Google says it has also fixed disappearing speaker groups, Wi-Fi 7 connection failures, and a bug where Bluetooth playback would pause right after you hit resume.
Older Nest cameras that were migrated into the Google Home app aren't left out. Google says it has improved Wi-Fi reconnection, fixed slow night-vision activation on first-generation Nest Cams, and resolved audio sync problems and random restarts on Nest Hello. The doorbell also gets better person and Familiar Face detection, while Nest Cam IQ models get a fix for their status light.
Google hasn't attached a single rollout date across every device, and as with past Gemini for Home updates, availability is likely to stagger by hardware and region over the coming days. The full changelog, which Android Police describes as exhaustive, is posted on Google's own release notes page for anyone chasing a fix for a specific device.
