Apple has confirmed the iPad mini 8’s battery capacity is smaller than the iPad mini 7’s — 4,900mAh versus 5,034mAh, a 134mAh reduction tied directly to the new model’s thinner, lighter chassis. The drop is real. It’s documented in Apple’s EU energy label filing. And it’s the first time since the iPad mini 6 that Apple has cut rated battery capacity in a generational update.
But Apple says battery life hasn’t changed: still up to 10 hours for video playback or web browsing. Same claim. Same number. No asterisk.
No footnote. Just a quieter, more efficient A20 Pro chip and an OLED display doing heavier lifting per milliamp. That efficiency gap has to close the gap, and Apple is betting it does. So far, no third-party testing contradicts that.
