The iPad mini 8 is confirmed for launch this month — and it will start at $799 in the US, $79,999 in India, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, cited by Wccftech. That’s a $200 jump over the iPad mini 7’s original $499 launch price, and $100 above its current $599 shelf price after last year’s DRAM-driven hike. No official Indian pricing has been announced beyond the Rs 79,999 figure, which matches the $799 US MSRP at prevailing exchange rates, but Apple India has not yet confirmed availability or local configuration details. The device will ship with an OLED display, the A20 Pro chip (shared with the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and iPhone Duo), 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. Up from 8GB in the iPad mini 7, and a relocated FaceTime camera plus revamped speakers. There is no mention of cellular pricing, but Gurman notes the $799 base applies to Wi-Fi only. The iPad mini 7 launched in October 2024. The mini 8 arrives two years later, ending the longest gap between mini generations since the model’s 2012 debut. Apple’s event this month will confirm timing, but pre-orders are not expected before October 16. The same day iPhone Duo orders open. The $799 price puts the mini 8 within $100 of the entry-level 11-inch M5 iPad Pro, which is already seeing discounts on Amazon and other retailers. That overlap could pressure buyers toward the larger Pro line, especially as the mini 8 abandons LCD entirely, removing the budget-tier fallback that kept the mini 7 accessible. No OLED iPad mini has ever launched at sub-$700. And no iPad mini has ever cost more than $699 at launch. This one does. Pre-orders begin October 16.
