Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max — identical in specs except for screen size and battery, at $1,200 for the base 256GB model in the US. In India, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at ₹1,39,900. Neither device brings a design refresh: it’s a millimeter-for-millimeter match to last year’s iPhone 17 Pro, down to the panel-shaped camera island, squared-off sides, two-tone rear, and aluminum unibody frame with Ceramic Shield glass. Apple calls the bump a “plateau.” It’s still there. So is the Action Button. So is the Camera Control button. Still finicky, still prone to accidental Photographic Styles shifts. If you disliked the iPhone 17 Pro’s look, this won’t change your mind. And if you own one, upgrading makes almost no sense. This is Apple’s clearest ‘S’-year iteration since the iPhone 6s: a tock, not a tick. A refinement, not a reinvention. The iPhone 18 Pro Max adds only a 6.9-inch screen and larger battery, no new sensors, no structural shift, no chassis revision. The Dynamic Island shrinks slightly, thanks to Face ID components moving under the OLED layer. That cuts the selfie cutout and lets three Live Activities appear simultaneously. Though XDA’s reviewer admits they’ve yet to see all three active at once. Still, the layout now cleanly separates content: flight seat on the left, Spotify playback on the right. Colors are Silver, Glacier (a sky-blue), Black (back after a one-year absence), and Burgundy, the flagship hue, “stunning under certain light,” per XDA. The aluminum and rear glass are now more closely color-matched. A move the reviewer calls a “cop-out” compared to the bolder contrast of the iPhone 17 Pro. Under the hood: the A20 Pro chip. Geekbench 6 scores hit 4,678 (single-core) and 12,583 (multi-core), far ahead of the Pixel 11 Pro’s Tensor G6. But raw numbers don’t translate to real-world need: XDA found no lag beyond setup, and no performance issues on the Pixel 11 Pro either. The chip runs cooler than last year’s, thanks to an improved vapor chamber. Battery life feels “impressively long”: full days even with heavy social media use. The C2 cellular modem arrives. No reception complaints reported, though signal remains spotty in weak zones. Cameras get the biggest functional lift. The wide lens is f/1.5–4.0, 48MP, 24mm, Apple’s first variable aperture. The telephoto is f/2.8, 48MP, 100mm. The ultrawide is f/2.2, 48MP. The front camera jumps to 18MP, f/1.9. All three rear shooters share the same megapixel count. A first for Apple. Storage starts at 256GB and climbs to 2TB. The LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display runs at 120Hz, 6.3 inches on the Pro, 6.9 on the Pro Max, both at 1206×2622 resolution (460 ppi). Pre-orders open Friday, October 11. Shipments begin Friday, October 18.
