Apple closed trading at $342.96 per share, taking the company back across the $5 trillion market capitalisation mark.
The threshold required a share price above $342.61. Apple squeaked past it to finish the session at roughly $5.005 trillion, recovering from a brief dip earlier in the week following reports of production cuts.
It is familiar ground for Cupertino, though not an easy line to hold. Apple first crossed $4 trillion at the close in October 2025. It broke past $5 trillion for the first time on July 28, 2026, before sliding back down into the high four-trillion range. Strong buyer interest in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max has now returned the stock to that peak.
Shipping waits and supply lines
Online store orders for the iPhone 18 Pro Max currently show delivery windows running around three weeks out. That gap took longer to accumulate than during previous product cycles, pointing to better initial output or steadier inventory flow before the orders piled up.
Supply constraints were already on management's radar during the summer. Back in July 2026, Apple chief executive Tim Cook told investors that securing inventory would get tight, though he insisted external manufacturing was not the bottleneck. He described the squeeze as a product of massive buyer interest rather than partner or supplier breakdowns.
Yet broader semiconductor constraints have not entirely vanished. This upcoming holiday shopping quarter usually delivers the company's heaviest sales volumes, but the schedule looks different this year. Apple pushed back the standard iPhone 18, along with prospective variants like the iPhone 18e or iPhone Air 2, into spring 2027.
That staggered rollout means the premium Pro tier must carry the holiday quarter on its own. Apple expects demand to pivot toward the standard hardware once those delayed spring launches arrive, keeping revenue relatively stable through the early months of next year rather than front-loading everything into the autumn.
Hardware is not doing all the heavy lifting alone. The company's Services division continues to deliver strong returns, while upcoming upgrades planned for Siri AI could maintain buyer momentum through the rest of the year. Investors are now watching whether delivery timelines on the iPhone 18 Pro stretch further into November as the holiday rush gathers speed.
