Apple’s iPhone Duo isn’t just folding — it’s spawning a cottage industry of novelty apps. Two weeks after launch, more than 30 new titles built specifically for its dual-screen hinge have hit the App Store, most priced between $0.99 and $5.99, with one fitness subscription at $59.99/year. None are productivity suites or enterprise tools.
These are marble-launching mazes, typewriter simulators, virtual aquariums, and camcorders that ‘develop’ photos when you open the device. They’re not fixes for the Duo’s reported app-compatibility gaps. They’re experiments, playful, literal, and often absurdly literal, in what a foldable phone could be when developers treat the hinge like a joystick, a shutter, or a doorbell.
And they’re already here: all 30 are live, paid or free, and available globally on iOS 19.2. No regional exclusives. No waitlists. Just apps that ask you to fold, snap, tilt, or tent your iPhone Duo like it’s a toy, because right now, for many of them, that’s exactly what it is.
The iPhone Duo colors don’t matter. The hinge does. Marbles Unhinged launches marbles off the crease. Chirpfold makes birds flap when you bend the screen.
Lullabox spins a porcelain ballerina faster as you open wider. These aren’t ports. They’re hinge-native. Some lean into utility, CalibReader shows book covers on the outer display and two-page spreads inside.
Faro lets you compare film posters side-by-side. Others lean hard into whimsy: Who’s at the Door? Turns the Duo into a haunted entryway. You open it to see who’s there.
Slam it shut if it’s scary. That’s not a demo. It’s a shipped app. Price-wise, most sit at $2.99, including Greens: Mini Golf, Fold Match, and Battlefleet Duo.
PianoFold charges $4.99 to unlock full songs. AltoPaint asks $5.99 for watercolor, oil, and gouache simulation. Callsign is free to download, then $1.49 per visual pack, ‘Do Not Disturb’, ‘In a Meeting’, ‘Deep Work’. Wakeout, the App of the Year 2020 fitness app, is the outlier: $59.99/year, positioning the Duo as a tent-mode workout coach.
Apple Arcade’s Retrocade is free with subscription. VNTG and IncrediBooth are free with daily limits or lens unlocks. No app listed requires external hardware. No app needs the Duo’s rumored second-generation hinge sensors, just the basic fold state, orientation, and screen position APIs shipped with iOS 19.2.
This isn’t a preview. It’s the first wave of what happens when Apple ships a new form factor and developers stop waiting for permission, and start folding.
