Apple has confirmed reports of inner display damage on a small number of iPhone Duo units — the company’s first foldable smartphone, and is offering free replacements to affected owners through AppleCare. The issue affects the device’s main internal OLED panel, not the cover display. Apple has not disclosed how many units are impacted, nor has it announced a recall or software-based mitigation.
Instead, users reporting cracks, discoloration or touch failure on the inner screen are being directed to contact AppleCare for service. No timeline for a revised hardware design has been shared. A separate, unverified claim surfaced this week via GSMArena: an unnamed Foxconn employee alleged Apple lowered quality inspection standards ahead of the holiday season to speed up unit shipments.
That same report claimed certain components were substituted in late production batches while QC thresholds remained unchanged. Apple has not responded to that allegation. GSMArena notes the claim remains unconfirmed, and adds that Apple likely knew about the Duo’s hinge-related fragility before launch but chose not to revise the design.
