Oppo's next Ultra-series flagship may finally stop borrowing its processor from Qualcomm. According to a tipster cited by Gadgets360, the Oppo Find X10 Ultra will ship with MediaTek's Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset when it launches next year, the same silicon already running inside the Find X10 Pro Max.

That would be a reversal. The Oppo Find X9 Ultra, which launched earlier this year, runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a chip that was already a generation old by the time the phone shipped. Oppo had kept the Ultra model on Qualcomm hardware even as the rest of its lineup drifted toward MediaTek, a split that looked increasingly odd given how the rest of the Find family was evolving.

The current Find X10 series already leans almost entirely on MediaTek. The standard Find X10 runs the Dimensity 9600M, and the Find X10 Pro Max carries the full Dimensity 9600 Pro. Go back a generation and the pattern holds too: both the Find X9 and Find X9 Pro used the same Dimensity 9500 chipset, with the Ultra as the lone Snapdragon holdout each time.

If the tip holds up, that holdout ends. A Find X10 Ultra on the Dimensity 9600 Pro would put every phone in the generation, from the base Find X10 to the Pro Max to the Ultra, on the same MediaTek platform. That's a meaningful change in strategy for a company that has historically reserved its priciest, most camera-heavy phone for whichever chip it considered the fastest available, usually a Snapdragon.

It's worth being careful here. This is a single tipster's claim relayed by one outlet, not an Oppo announcement, and the company hasn't said anything about chipset plans for the Find X10 Ultra or confirmed the phone exists on any particular timeline. Chipset choices for Chinese flagships do shift late in development, and Oppo has switched horses before.

What isn't in dispute is where Oppo's current lineup stands. The Find X10 and Find X10 Pro Max are already out and running MediaTek hardware, and buyers comparing the Find X10 Ultra against the Pro Max will likely be looking at the same silicon under the hood, with camera hardware and build probably doing the heavy lifting in deciding which one costs more. Pricing and India availability for the Find X10 Ultra haven't been detailed by Oppo or by the tipster, and neither has an exact launch window beyond "next year." Until Oppo confirms specifics, the chipset claim stays a leak worth watching rather than a settled spec sheet.
