Oppo's Find X10 Ultra might not run on a Qualcomm chip after all, at least according to one unconfirmed leak making the rounds this week.
A tipster on Weibo claims Oppo is testing a version of the phone built around MediaTek's Dimensity 9600 Pro, tuned with custom imaging algorithms that would presumably feed into the company's Lumo True Image Engine, its in-house photo processing system. That would be a break from the Find X9 Ultra, which launched in April on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
But before anyone calls this settled, the same tipster said in follow-up replies that a Snapdragon version is also being tested, likely using the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, and that Oppo has not actually decided which chip ships in the final phone. The tipster even added that the Snapdragon option is the more likely outcome right now. So treat the MediaTek talk as one live possibility rather than a locked-in spec.
If Oppo does go with MediaTek, the practical effect would be to blur the line between the Find X10 Ultra and the Find X10 Pro Max, which would then share a chipset. The cameras would be left to do the differentiating.
And the Ultra's camera setup is the part that leaked in fuller detail earlier this week. Per that leak, the phone is tipped to carry a 200MP main sensor at 1/1.12-inch with LOFIC technology, which widens dynamic range by capturing overflow charge from bright scenes. Alongside it: a 200MP periscope telephoto, a second periscope offering 10x optical zoom at 50MP, and a 100MP selfie camera built around a square sensor. None of that is official either, and Oppo has said nothing publicly about either the cameras or the chip.
Worth remembering here is that chipset swaps between Snapdragon and MediaTek aren't unheard of for Oppo's flagship line, and testing more than one silicon option ahead of a launch isn't unusual for companies trying to lock in supply, pricing or performance before committing. It does mean, though, that anyone holding out for the Find X10 Ultra is looking at a phone whose core processor is still genuinely up in the air a few months before launch.
No launch date, pricing or market rollout has been mentioned for the Find X10 Ultra in any of this reporting, for the US, India or anywhere else. Given the Find X9 Ultra's April debut, a similar spring timeline for the X10 Ultra would be a reasonable guess, but that's an assumption, not a confirmed date.
For now, what's clear is that Oppo is actively testing both chip paths and has not committed. Expect more specific leaks, and ideally some word from Oppo itself, as the testing phase narrows toward a final decision.
