AMD has raised GDDR6 memory prices for its GPU board partners, effective October 1, 2026 — a move expected to push up retail prices for Radeon RX 9000 series cards in the US and India. NVIDIA, by contrast, has not issued a similar price hike for its partners, though its RTX 50 series already ships with costlier GDDR7 memory and carries higher launch prices than AMD’s RDNA 4 lineup. The increase hits at a time when memory is just one of several components driving GPU inflation: SMD parts and PCBs are also seeing price bumps, according to Bench Life. But GDDR6 remains the biggest lever, especially for AMD, which still relies on it across the RX 5000, 6000, 7000, and current RX 9000 families. Earlier generations are largely out of production, leaving the RX 9000 series as the primary bearer of the cost shift. Board Channels reports AMD notified partners in advance. No public pricing guidance or regional breakdowns were issued. Wccftech notes that while NVIDIA hasn’t raised GDDR7 pricing this year, the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080. Both GDDR7-based, launched at steep premiums over last-gen models. In India, the RTX 5090 debuted at ₹1,49,999. In the US, it launched at $1,999. The RX 9000 series starts at ₹64,999 in India and $649 in the US. But those figures may now rise. No timeline has been given for when revised MSRPs will appear at retailers like Amazon India, Best Buy, or Croma. What comes next? Watch for board partner announcements, Sapphire, ASRock, XFX.
