Apple has refreshed its flagship streamer nearly four years after its predecessor debuted, moving the hardware directly to its latest 3nm silicon. The Apple TV 4K (4th generation) enters the line with the Apple A19 processor under the hood, matching the silicon powering the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17e.
Buyers get only one hardware configuration this time around. Apple eliminated the previous 64GB entry tier, standardizing the streamer on 128GB of internal storage. The pricing sits at $299 in the US, £299 in the UK, and €349 across the Eurozone. Apple has opened orders immediately, though hardware deliveries and retail availability will not start until November 13.
The Silicon and Networking Shift
The leap to the A19 processor marks a substantial generational jump. The Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) ran on the A15 Bionic, the chip that originally powered the iPhone 13 family. Dropping the A19 into a set-top enclosure gives Apple's tvOS platform a 3nm foundation, coupled with updated connectivity across the board.
Ethernet is no longer a spec differentiator between storage capacities. The sole 128GB configuration includes Gigabit Ethernet and Thread smart home networking straight out of the box. Wireless duties move up to Wi-Fi 7, while display output remains handled by HDMI 2.1. Apple caps that video pipeline at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, keeping visual output standards in line with earlier iterations.
Multi-Speaker HomePod Audio
The biggest living room change sits in how the hardware routes sound. Previous Apple TV generations maxed out at pairing with two HomePods for stereo playback. The 4th generation box doubles that ceiling, enabling audio output across up to four HomePods simultaneously for expanded surround setups.
At $299, the new unit sits higher up the pricing ladder than the 3rd generation model, which previously split its lineup into cheaper baseline storage and an Ethernet-equipped higher tier. By forcing Gigabit Ethernet, Thread, Wi-Fi 7, and 128GB into a single SKU, Apple has simplified the choice, but at a steeper entry price for anyone looking to run tvOS in the living room.
