IQOO is trying to shake off its reputation as strictly a brand for mobile gamers. Speaking on the sidelines of the India Mobile Congress 2026, iQOO chief executive officer Nipun Marya pitched the upcoming iQOO 16 as an effort to deliver an all-round premium handset rather than just a high-performance device built for long gaming sessions.

"the iQOO 16 will be the most complete flagship from iQOO ever," Marya stated. He pointed to upgraded camera hardware and fresh software as evidence that the company wants to reach people outside its traditional enthusiast base.

The core hardware remains aggressive. First shown in China, the iQOO 16 runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, fabricated on a 2nm node, paired with iQOO's custom Q4 gaming chip. Up front, it carries a 6.85-inch 2K AMOLED panel running at a 165Hz refresh rate. Marya described the screen as an M16 panel, noting that while the high frame rate serves games, the extra responsiveness makes routine app switching and everyday scrolling smoother as well.

Battery capacity is another area where the hardware takes a major jump. In its Chinese release, the phone carries an 8,400mAh cell with support for 100W wired power and 40W wireless charging. That is a massive battery by modern flagship standards, offering ample capacity to run demanding apps without demanding an immediate top-up.

Software sits at the heart of this repositioning. The iQOO 16 runs OriginOS 7, layered on top of Android 17. Marya argued that dialing in the software layer is vital for changing how people view the device. "Gaming is one aspect that's going to be there, but the most important thing is the complete flagship experience," he said.

The industrial design reflects that shift away from gamer-centric styling. Past iQOO flagships carried louder trims, but the new handset goes for quieter lines. A silver variant looks plain at first glance before showing off a patterned layer under angled light. A second variant comes in dark purple, which Marya noted appears almost blue in certain lighting environments. According to Marya, customer expectations are shifting, prompting the brand to introduce subtle character details instead of loud branding.

IQOO has not announced pricing or an official launch date for India yet. With Marya presenting the hardware at IMC, a formal Indian debut should follow soon.
