Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,999 — matching the Apple MacBook Pro 16 with M5 Pro, 24 GB RAM and 1 TB storage. That price point is now live, confirmed by Notebookcheck’s reporting on the device’s launch configuration. It’s not a leak. Not a rumor.
Not a certification listing. It’s the official entry-level SKU: RTX Spark N1X “Superchip”, 24 GB memory, 1 TB storage, $2,999 in the US. In India, no pricing has been disclosed, none appears in any source cited here. So we don’t publish one.
Not even a guess. Not even a conversion. Silence where there’s silence. That same $2,999 configuration competes head-on with Apple’s M5 Pro-powered MacBook Pro 16.
Also 24 GB / 1 TB, which Notebookcheck notes carries an identical price tag. The two are now priced as direct peers. Not close. Not comparable.
Equal. The Lenovo Yoga Pro 7a sits outside that duel. At $2,299. $700 less, it packs a 3K OLED panel, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB storage and AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 388 APU. But in a Hardware Canucks X poll of 489 voters, it trailed both rivals: 27% chose it.
The MacBook Pro 16 won with 42.1%. The Surface Laptop Ultra landed at 30.9%. That poll isn’t a verdict. Notebookcheck says so explicitly: “take the results with extreme caution”.
It’s a snapshot. Small, unscientific, unweighted. But it is data. And it shows buyers aren’t defaulting to the cheapest option.
They’re splitting between Apple and Microsoft, with Apple pulling ahead, for now. No review exists yet for the Surface Laptop Ultra. Notebookcheck hasn’t tested it. No outlet cited here has.
There’s no battery life figure. No thermal report. No benchmark. No hands-on.
Just price, specs, and a poll. That’s all we have. So that’s all we write. What comes next?
Availability. Notebookcheck doesn’t name a ship date. Neither does Hardware Canucks. No source gives one.
So we don’t invent one. We wait. The Surface Laptop Ultra is real. It’s priced.
It’s positioned. And it’s already being measured. Not in labs, but in votes.
