Microsoft’s Surface Laptop Ultra launches globally at $2,599 — the entry price for the base model, not a configuration with upgraded RAM or storage. It ships with Nvidia’s RTX Spark architecture, a new Windows-on-Arm platform co-developed by Nvidia and MediaTek, and runs Windows 11 on Arm. The laptop weighs over four pounds and measures 15 inches diagonally.

It is not thin or light, closer in heft and form to the Surface Laptop Studio than to the ultraportable Surface Laptop Go line. No Indian pricing is reported in the sources. No UK or EU prices are mentioned either. Only the US starting price, $2,599, is confirmed.

No release date beyond ‘now’ is given. PCWorld’s review published October 20, 2026, and states the device was tested “for about a week”, implying availability began in early October. Microsoft has not announced a formal launch event or rollout schedule. The device is in stores and being reviewed as of publication.

It is not a refresh of last year’s Surface Laptop Studio 2. It is a new product category: an AI-optimized Windows-on-Arm laptop built around shared CPU/GPU memory rather than discrete VRAM. That means the 32GB of system RAM is split dynamically between processor and graphics tasks, a departure from traditional gaming or creator laptops.

The chip powering it is called the N1X. According to CPU Monkey benchmarks cited in PCWorld, its single-core performance score is 96, well below Apple’s M6 (220) and behind even mid-tier x86 chips in responsiveness-critical tasks like Settings navigation and Start menu transitions. Multicore scores are higher, but everyday Windows feels sluggish in places.

Adobe Premiere Pro requires a beta version to run. ComfyUI, a text-to-video AI tool, supports RTX Spark natively, and outperforms most competing laptops in that benchmark, landing near the top tier alongside the Asus ROG Strix SCAR 16 (which costs $4,499.99). But that’s a narrow win. For general productivity, the Surface Laptop Ultra functions “perfectly well”, per PCWorld.

Battery life clocks in at about 10 hours under office-work simulation, solid, but unremarkable next to Apple Silicon or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite rivals. There is no mention of a trade-in program outside PCWorld’s offhand note that Microsoft “will give you $1,000 for your MacBook Pro”, no terms, no eligibility, no official source cited.

No specs beyond 32GB RAM, RTX Spark GPU, 15-inch display, and N1X CPU are confirmed. No storage capacity, screen resolution, or port list appears in the reporting. No Indian launch details, no local pricing, no regional availability windows. Just this: $2,599.

Available now. And a question the review leaves hanging: Is shared memory the future of AI laptops, or just a stopgap until native Arm software catches up?
