The Fitbit Air is Google's screenless fitness tracker, sitting at the entry point of the company's wearable lineup below the Fitbit Edge and the Pixel Watch 5 (1, 4). It is priced at $99 in the US (5), with metal bands for it launching October 27 (3).
Fitbit Air price
Google prices the Fitbit Air at $99 in the US, well below the $179.99 Fitbit Edge and the $399-range Pixel Watch 5 (5, 16). Stainless steel mesh bands for the Air cost $70 standalone, or $149 for a bundle that pairs an Obsidian Fitbit Air with the Metal Mesh band, as reported on 12 October (3). Google had not announced Indian, UK or EU pricing for the bands as of that report (3).
Fitbit Air specs
| Spec | Detail |
|---|
| Display | None; screenless design (4, 14) |
| Water resistance | IP68 rated, plus separate 5 ATM certification, enough for swimming but not showers, saunas or hot tubs (6) |
| Battery life | Five to seven days on a single charge, with the longer end dependent on adjusting six settings, per Android Police's 100-day test (7, 8) |
| Heart rate / health sensors | Continuous heart rate, HRV, resting heart rate, SpO2 and blood pressure, shared with the pricier Fitbit Edge (15) |
| Daily activity readings (reported) | 8,000–9,000 steps, resting heart rate around 60 bpm (7) |
| GPS | Not included (5, 14) |
| NFC / payments | Not specified as present; the tracker lacks a screen or buttons for navigation (14) |
| Missing features (per a switcher's review) | Lap tracking, physical buttons, and GPS were all cited as absent by a reporter who moved from an Apple Watch (14) |
Google has also been extending software features to the Air. Google Health version 5.11 brought automatic detection of more than 100 activity types to the Fitbit Air, up from roughly 10 previously, alongside the Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5 (10, 11). The same update added Health Guardian trend features, including blood pressure tracking, for Premium subscribers (11). The rollout was confirmed for India as well, landing on the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5 later in October (13). Google has also confirmed that sleep breathing quality, part of the Health Guardian suite already on Pixel Watch models, is coming to the Fitbit Air, though the company has not given a release date and the feature may require a Premium subscription (9, 12).
Separately, Fitbit Air's exported health data, including its battery stats, step counts, resting heart rate and SpO2 readings, can be fed into Google's Gemini to generate personalized seven-day workout plans without needing a Google Health Coach subscription (7).
Fitbit Air deals
As reported on 12 October, the metal mesh bands for the Fitbit Air were set to launch October 27 at $70 for the standalone band in champagne gold or polished silver, or $149 bundled with an Obsidian Fitbit Air (3). No Indian, UK or EU pricing had been announced for the bands at that time (3).
Fitbit Air reviews and first impressions
Android Police's 100-day wear test found that Fitbit Air can last five to seven days per charge, but only after adjusting six key settings (8). In a separate piece, a reporter who switched from an Apple Watch to the Fitbit Air said they did not regret the move, citing constant notifications and what they called lackluster battery life on the Apple Watch as reasons to leave (14). That reviewer nonetheless flagged three gaps compared with the Apple Watch: the Air lacks lap tracking, physical buttons and GPS, features the writer said mattered for serious runners (14).
Fitbit Air vs rivals
Compared with the newer Fitbit Edge, the Air shares nearly all core health sensors, including continuous heart rate, HRV, resting heart rate, SpO2 and blood pressure, according to a feature comparison published by Android Authority (15). The $80 price difference between the two, the outlet suggested, mainly buys the Edge's AMOLED display, GPS and ECG, rather than additional health tracking (15). The Fitbit Air is also screenless by design, which Google and reporters have positioned as a deliberate contrast to the Edge's bigger display and the Pixel Watch 5's full Wear OS experience, which adds third-party apps, a speaker and microphone, Gemini and NFC for Google Wallet, none of which the Edge or Air offer (1, 4, 16). A separate Android Authority comparison of the Fitbit Edge against five rivals, including the Pixel Watch 5, Galaxy Fit 3, Oura Ring 5 and the discontinued Charge 6, also noted the Fitbit Air as the cheaper, screen-free alternative within Google's own lineup (16).
